Day 0
For a number of occasions i decided to finally quit using facebook. here is why:
no, i have not watched the movie, or followed stupid news on tv or newspapers that brought up super-new information about facebook missusing my personal data. no, i have not discovered all of a sudden, that the internet isnt a completely awesome place. It's not some spontaneous decision, it developed in my mind for a couple of time already.
now what do you do on facebook, and what does facebook do to you while using it?
games:
when i entered facebook about 3 years ago, i right away started farming, cause everyone did, and you wouldnt find anything bad about it, not yet. Some day you will find no reason to keep harvesting in a game without a goal. And when you are honest, you only did, because you did not have anything better to do, you were bored or tried to run away from harder tasks that would not bring up such easy-to-have satisfaction.
summed up: you spend time doing useless things, while it gives you small loads of satisfaction.
flirting:
facebook is a pretty easy way to stalk people, suck in all the information you get, unless they haven't worked through all of their privacy settings. So when you go out at night, meet someone and share numbers for example, you will, before even thinking of calling her (in my case), search her on facebook, cause thats where she usually can be found, if she is to be found on the internet. In case you find her, and men let's face it, we check the pictures first. If there might be a picture, that does not fullfill the dreams we had about her when we were drunk, chances of giving it a try are decreasing heavily. And even if you get past the pictures and check some rarely usefull information about her you will judge her on the few things you get, even if you know, that all this doesn't have to mean anything.
Our brain builds something up that might be completely wrong, leading to a wrong decision here.
share-mania:
AS there are a lot of people using facebook, you would think there're just as many ways to use it. But over time some seem to appear a lot more often. For example: There are people sharing simply everything they do. "woooo i just ate a banana, it was yellow" "waiting for the train.... again" "booooored" and the last is pretty much the most honest one. But there're reasons to do that, and i'm not the one to judge why people do that, i'm just guessing here.
A good friend of mine always lets everyone know, when he is at the trainstation in the morning, via facebook or twitter. I just put those equal here. I'm asking why? Isn't that the usual thing to do in the morning? shouldn't nearly everyone of his 'friends' know what hes doing anyway? Is it the search for reassurement or approval?
I don't know.
But what i see is, that people change their behaviour.
Last thing to read and then u're through.
Back to me. In the last couple of weeks i didnt really share stuff. Might have been a video, or asking for a party or really some very special thing happening around me. But i recognized people posting comments, that were meant to match my opinion and feelings within the shared thought or happening, but afterall they got me completely wrong. Disapponted I deleted my post again, as the reaction of friends would have made others reading their comments think wrong of me.
It would actually do harm to me.
There're a lot of examples similar to the ones mentioned, i bet you can think of some, too. Facebook can be considered a drug:
It changes your way of behaviour, it stops you from doing more imporant stuff, it takes you to a state of mind, where you are not able to do the right decisions based on accurate information, and it can harm you.
coming next: quitting process, day 1 without facebook. (maybe german version)
quittung fb but starting a twitter acc? there's actually no big difference ;) on the other hand: good points and sorry for train-posts. Lets phone some day!
AntwortenLöschenyou're right of course there, but twitter is just there to post a link to here. how would you get to know instead?
AntwortenLöschenhow do u know the train-example is about you? ;)
